Five Accessories

Many years ago Christine Hutchison and her husband Wells were honeymooning in Bali. The couple met a local man who told them how much a gift of $5 a month he had received from an American man years before had impacted his life. He was able to stay in school and learn English, work and provide for his family, and eventually send his children to college.

While in Bali, the couple also admired the handbags and other handmade wares of local artisans. Inspired by the artisans, as well as the power of just $5, their company Five Accessories began.

At Five Accessories, they sell handcrafted handbags and other accessories made in Bali, Honduras, Guatemala and other countries. For each item sold, the company donates $5 from every handbag and 15% of other sales to aid under-privileged children in the villages where the goods are made. Today, the Balinese man they met oversees the production of their bags in Bali.

The funds go to schoolchildren in Bali and families living near a trash dump in Guatemala City through safepassage.org. Additionally, they also participate in a fair trade cooperative in Honduras.

The bags made in Bali are created from natural materials such as coconut shells and wicker. These handbags are reasonably priced from $25-$85. The Bali bags are just some of the wonderful eco-conscious bags sold at Five Accessories.

Five Accessories also features cloth bags from Guatemala in their Coleccion Luna collection. These bags have a Bohemian chic look to them and are priced from $60-$85.

They also offer eco-friendly handbags, which are made from the potato chip bags that litter the streets of Honduras. The chip bags are cleaned and the strips are woven to form adorable and colorful handbags. The bags come in three different sizes and range in price from $25-$120.

Additonally they offer Vietnamese recycled rice bags and wallets. The company donates $5 from each of these items sold to Ivory Coast Women and Children 501C3 in Cambodia that endeavor to free women from the sex trade. Prices range from $32 to $46. Colorful cloth bags from Rwanda are also available from $55-$70.

Five Accessories also carries jewelry made with silver, wood, wicker, bamboo and other recycled materials. The bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings are handmade by local artisans and feature beautiful craftsmanship. The jewelry is priced from $10-$99.
