We had the opportunity to talk with NolaBella designer Jill Scharmen about accessory and jewelry trends."A growing trend that I see is crests, military ornaments and badges of honor in jewelry and accessories," said Jill. "It's another popular trend from the 80's, it adds a little 'royalty' and polish to your outfit without being too overwhelming, whether its jeans or a dress."
"I love that the 'statement' necklace has made its way back into fashion. It's the best thing to throw on especially in a rush, as you don't really need anything else to spruce up your outfit. I am fond of the vintage inspired pieces and am always looking to add that vibe into my own designs."
When asked about any tips for accessorizing, Jill weighed in about shoes, handbags and more.
"As a fan of vintage, I seek out one-of a kind shoes (vintage or current) that have a distinct design, pattern or color," explains Jill. "Add them to a simple black dress and compliments will abound. Same for clutches. Look for trends (embellished, different color suedes/leather, Asian fabrics done on a modern shape, etc.) that actually have a classic feel to them so you can bring out that piece five years from now and still look cutting edge."
"Of course, jewelry is my first love. A long simple necklace really makes a difference in any outfit. Simple hoops in various finishes and metals also add a little glamour."
Thanks to Jill Scharmen for her helpful tips.
