I had the opportunity to talk to designer Kristina Kankalin about her hats, as well as the latest fashion trends.
"I feel that the rockabilly and burlesque inspired styles are going from strong to stronger with a whole new generation of women starting to wear hats again. Jewel colours, animal prints and funky veils are great ways to bring that little bit of extra fun into your everyday wear, or evening/party outfits. Right now I'm working on a new collection Kankalin Vintage which will consist of up-cycled vintage hats updated for the 21st century while keeping their oldie days charm. I also feel people like the idea (well I LOVE the idea) of something old getting a new lease of life."
"I would love to think that every woman needs a hat or two, and not just to protect against the cold! A hat or even better a hatling finishes off an outfit and makes the wearer look individual and stylish. A lovely, colourful beret or a small cheeky pillbox could be your everyday choice, while a fun, more sculptural hatling will give that little extra to any fun evening out."
One thing Kristina doesn't like is when things are too matchy-matchy.
"I personally don't like to match my hats too much to my outfit, I feel that doing that is very last century. Be brave, choose a strong colour and you will find it works with absolutely everything you own."
