Stuart Weitzman Biography:
Legendary shoe designer Stuart Weitzman was raised in the state of New York. Educated at George W. Hewlitt High School, followed by the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1963.
Weitzman’s shoe designing penchant developed from his home in Massachusetts. The designer’s father had started his own shoe manufacturing business in the late 1950s, dubbed "Seymour Shoes." Upon the death of Weitzman’s father, Stuart and his brother took over the company, and it was during this period that the designer began to have more first-hand creative experience.
Stuart Weitzman Shoes:
Although the Weitzman brothers sold the company to a Spanish entrepreneur in 1972, Stuart continued to design shoes for the business. Later, in 1994, Weitzman re-acquired the company and holds it under his name to this day.
Weitzman is known for his bold and sometimes eccentric designs. Always high-class and made with exquisite care, the designer is a well-sought after commodity among Hollywood socialites.
Million Dollar Shoes:
In 2008, Weitzman created his "Retro Rose" shoe embellished with over a million dollars worth of diamonds for Diablo Cody, Academy Award winner for Best Original Screenplay for Juno. The controversy came when Cody didn't realize she was expected to wear the shoes to the awards ceremony and instead wore a pair of gold flats of her own.
Stuart Weitzman Materials:
Stuart Weitzman’s choice of raw materials from which he fashions his shoes have been unfailingly unique. Examples include shoes made from wallpaper, cork, vinyl, lucite and even 24-karat gold.
Some Weitzman shoes are encrusted with high-end diamonds and other jewels that can be removed and worn later as jewelry, in order to ensure longevity and versatility, of course. Weitzman manufactures most of his shoes in Spain, where his company resided for more than two decades.
