Cynthia Rowley Biography:
Born in 1958 in Illinois, Cynthia Rowley designed her first dress at the tender age of 9. She went on to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where as a senior she designed her first dress as a professional.
The fashion world responded to her talent by awarding her with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) New Fashion Talent Award. Not content just to design women's clothing, she also started designing menswear and branched out into the world of interior design. She also has a large line of accessories, a signature scent and over 50 boutiques in the United States, Europe and Asia.
Cynthia Rowley Commercial Success:
Rowley has positioned herself as a master of different media. By making targeted appearances on television to hawk her lines, she has reached a very large audience. She also realized the power of the telelvision medium, including reality TV. She has served as a judge on HGTV's "Design Star," a contest to find the next TV show host for the cable network's stable of design and home makeover shows.
Cynthia Rowell Books:
Rowley has also written a series of books called Swell that have sold well. They target women by giving them 'swell' ideas about such topics as holidays, decorating, dinner parties and the like. She also inks columns for "Glamour" magazine and has a new line of home goods under her SwellCo line. By combining television, books and fashion, she has positioned herself to be very successful in multiple genres for years to come.
